Kapture

Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 5, 2026

Kapture ("Kapture," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by Nikhil Kapur, an individual doing business as Kapture. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your information when you use the Kapture website at kapture.dev and the Kapture apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch, including widgets and Shortcuts (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you give us

  • Account details: your email address and a hashed password, or the details you share when you sign in with Apple or Google.
  • Profile details: your name, preferred name, role or job title, industry, target companies, experience level, field of study, graduation year, current role status, and any background notes you choose to add, including notes for the Kanan coach.
  • Career content (“Kaptures”): the story text you capture, by typing or by voice, and the structured results we generate from it (title, summary, challenge, actions, outcomes, skills, and resume bullet).
  • Coaching and practice content: messages you send to and receive from Kanan, and what you enter in Interview Prep.
  • Professional network details: company names, contact names, relationship notes, and dates you choose to add.

1.2 Information collected automatically

  • Technical details (website): IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, and referring URLs.
  • Session details: sign-in tokens and cookies (website) or a secure session stored in your device's Keychain (apps), used only to keep you signed in.
  • Cookies and local storage (website): we use essential cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in, remember your theme, hold work you have not synced yet, and maintain a privacy-safe product analytics identifier. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
  • Usage counts: how many Kaptures and other features you use each month, and how many AI requests you make each day, used to apply plan limits and prevent abuse.
  • Product analytics: pages and app lifecycle events, feature interactions we explicitly instrument, device and app version, operating system, subscription plan, and an opaque account identifier. We do not send Kapture text, transcripts, resumes, chat messages, email addresses, names, or AI output to analytics.

Kapture uses PostHog for product analytics. Session replay and broad interaction autocapture are disabled. We do not use analytics to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

1.3 Information from third parties

  • Sign in with Apple: your email address (or an Apple private relay address if you choose to hide your email) and, the first time you sign in, the name you choose to share.
  • Sign in with Google: your email address and display name.
  • Apple (App Store purchases): when you subscribe in the app, Apple sends us transaction details such as the product you bought, purchase and expiration dates, transaction identifiers, renewal status, and whether it was a test (sandbox) purchase. Apple handles your payment information. We never receive your card details or Apple Account password.
  • Stripe (web purchases): your subscription status and a Stripe customer identifier. Stripe handles your payment information. We never receive your full card number, CVV, or bank details.

2. Voice Capture, Apple Watch, and Data on Your Device

  • Voice is transcribed on your device. When you capture a story by voice, Apple's on-device speech recognition turns it into text. Audio recordings are never uploaded to Kapture or to any AI provider. Only the resulting text is sent to our servers.
  • Apple Watch recordings are stored on your watch until your iPhone receives them. Your iPhone transcribes them on-device, and the watch deletes its copy once the iPhone confirms receipt.
  • Offline captures: if you capture a story without a connection, the text is saved on your device and uploaded when you are back online.
  • Widgets, Watch, and Shortcuts read a small local summary (for example, counts and recent card titles) stored in a shared container on your device so they can display without signing in again.
  • Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. We do not send marketing push notifications.
  • Microphone and speech permissions are requested only when you choose to capture by voice. You can turn them off at any time in your device settings.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Create and maintain your account and verify your identity.
  • Provide the Service, including story capture, AI structuring, the Kanan career coach, Interview Prep, KAP Stats, the Monthly Wrap, reminders, widgets, and your experience library.
  • Send your story text and related content to Anthropic's Claude API to generate structured career content and coaching responses (see Section 5).
  • Check your subscription status and apply the right plan on every device, whether you subscribed through Apple or on our website.
  • Send transactional emails, such as email verification and password reset links.
  • Enforce our Terms of Service, prevent fraud and abuse, and keep the Service secure.
  • Understand aggregate, de-identified usage so we can improve the Service.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows:

  • Supabase, Inc.: hosts our database, authentication, and server functions. Supabase stores your account, profile, Kaptures, conversations, and subscription records on our behalf.
  • Anthropic, PBC: processes your story text and coaching content to generate AI results (see Section 5).
  • Apple Inc.: processes App Store purchases and Sign in with Apple. When you delete your account, we ask Apple to revoke Kapture's access to your Apple sign-in.
  • Stripe, Inc.: processes payments made on our website.
  • Google LLC: handles sign-in if you choose Sign in with Google.
  • Vercel Inc.: hosts the Kapture website and processes standard request data such as IP address and browser details to serve pages.
  • Cloudflare, Inc.: runs the Turnstile check on website sign-up and waitlist forms to block bots. It sees your IP address and basic browser signals, not your Kaptures.
  • PostHog, Inc.: processes privacy-limited product analytics so we can understand activation, feature adoption, reliability, and subscription conversion. PostHog does not receive your Kapture text, transcripts, resumes, chats, email address, name, or AI output.
  • Legal requirements: we may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is needed to protect our rights, prevent fraud, or protect anyone's safety.
  • Business transfers: if Kapture is merged, acquired, or sold, your information may transfer as part of that deal. We will tell you by email or a clear notice in the Service before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Each of these providers handles your information under its own privacy policy and our agreements with them.

5. AI Processing

Kapture uses Anthropic's Claude models to power core features.

  • Capturing a story: the text of your story is sent to Anthropic to produce a structured result. Your name, email address, and account ID are not included in that request.
  • Kanan coach and Interview Prep: to give personal answers, we may send your structured experiences, the companies and contacts you added, your conversation in that session, and any background notes you provided.
  • Monthly Wrap and KAP Stats are built from your structured experiences.

Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, Anthropic does not use data sent through the API to train its models, and it may keep API inputs and outputs only for a limited period to run its service and prevent misuse. We do not use your personal information, Kaptures, or conversations to train any AI model, ours or anyone else's.

6. How Long We Keep Information

  • We keep your information while your account is active.
  • When you delete your account, your profile, Kaptures, conversations, network details, pending captures, and usage history are permanently deleted right away. This cannot be undone.
  • Subscription and transaction records may be kept for up to seven (7) years where tax, accounting, or fraud prevention rules require it.
  • Aggregated statistics that cannot identify you may be kept indefinitely.
  • Data stored on your devices: when you sign out, offline captures are uploaded to your account and then removed from the device, and widget summaries are cleared. Reminders and Kanan conversations kept in the apps stay on that device, tied to your account, until you delete your account or the app.

7. Your Choices and Rights

Wherever you live, you can:

  • Access your profile, Kaptures, and conversations in the Service at any time.
  • Correct your profile and edit or delete individual Kaptures.
  • Delete your account and all associated data. In the apps: Settings → Account → Delete Account. On the web: Settings → Privacy → Delete account.
  • Download a copy of your data from Settings → Privacy on kapture.dev, or email us at appsbykap@gmail.com and we will send it in a machine-readable format.

Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Apple manages those. Cancel in your Apple Account settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions) to stop future charges. Subscriptions bought on our website are cancelled automatically when you delete your account.

7.1 EEA and UK residents

You also have the right to restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, and complain to your local data protection authority. Our legal bases are: performance of a contract (providing the Service you signed up for), legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, and improving the Service), and legal obligation.

7.2 California residents

You have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and share it, to delete it, to correct it, to opt out of its sale or sharing (we do neither), and to not be treated differently for using these rights.

To use any of these rights, email appsbykap@gmail.com with a subject line starting “KAPTURE:”. We respond within 30 days.

8. Age Requirement

The Service is only for people who are 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has given us information, email us at appsbykap@gmail.com and we will delete it.

9. Security

We protect your information with HTTPS encryption for all data in transit, row-level security so your records can only be read by your own signed-in account, hashed passwords, sessions stored in the device Keychain, and rate limits on sign-in and sensitive endpoints. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your rights, we will notify you as the law requires.

10. International Transfers

Kapture is operated from the United States, and your information is stored and processed in the United States. If you use the Service from another country, you understand that your information will be transferred there. Where the law requires, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

11. Third-Party Services and Links

The Service links to and works with third-party services, including Apple, Supabase, Anthropic, Stripe, Google, Vercel, Cloudflare, and PostHog. Their privacy practices are their own, and we encourage you to read their policies. This policy covers only information Kapture processes.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the Service or the law changes. For material changes, we will update the effective date and tell you by email or an in-app notice at least 7 days before the changes take effect. If you keep using the Service after that date, the updated policy applies. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and delete your account.
